Wind Energy Idea: Is this situation feasible?
I am by no means an expert on this subject, but I do have one idea I would like to throw out there. Would it be feasible to somehow place wind turbines at the top of skyscrappers or any tall buildings far that matter? I know that doubling the altitude of turbines increases wind speed, which would increase energy out. Dosen't make sense to put a turbine on a very tall building?

It does make a lot of sense and there is a company called Building Turbines in Austin, Texas that is developing a product. Here’s a story from an Austin TV station that explains the idea. It includes a link to the full video which shows their latest prototype in action.
You could do that but the area that would be available would be small. The small area would limit the amount of turbines you could put up and therefore limit the power you could generate. Also some cities are windier than others.
There are solutions to these problems I am sure (such as staking turbines on top of each other) but I think that when looking at the cost vs. benefit it is probably better to just buy the electricity off the grid.
Actually the idea is fine but u need to take into consideration a lot of practical aspects…like it should not hinder air traffic, it should be strong enough to hold on during strong winds, cost of placing them there, and generally ppl do not construct 1 or 2 turbines but wide arrays…etc. Thats y practically no one has tried it. However, ppl are coming up with a new idea of using windmills along sea shores and in the seas. In the sea they use a floating base that is connected to the sea shore by cables that hold it over the water surface and a central battery is used to tap the energy from any array of such wind turbines. Wt do u think? Isnt this a better idea???
