Wind energy?

Could someone give me a list of everything I would have to buy if I wanted to start generating power for my home using wind?

a tidal fan
some wind
and some wirework to fix it
mainly a back-up generator for when there is no wind…
But instead there is a more environment friendly way to balance your supply and demand for electricity: THE GRID !!!
Understanding the basic components of an RE system and how they function is not an overwhelming task. Here are some brief descriptions of the common equipment used in grid-intertied and off-grid wind-electric systems. Systems vary—not all equipment is necessary for every system type.
Wind Generator
Tower
Brake
Charge Controller
Dump Load
Battery Bank
System Meter
Main DC Disconnect
Inverter
AC Breaker Panel
Kilowatt-Hour Meter
Backup Generator
There is a lot to consider for a system. The best source I have found is http://www.homepower.com/basics/wind
I have explored both wind and solar alternatives. there are many websites to find your answers on just by typing in the search window, wind mills or wind powered energy.
First you need a wind turbine to produce the electricity. Then you need a bank of storage batteries to hold the electricity you produce with the turbine. At this point you have to make a choice between a 12 volt system or a 110 volt system. A 12 volt system is like on a boat, everything is low voltage and not as bright or strong as 110 power. To have a 110 volt system, like most homes you would need to get an inverter to change the battery power into 110 volt power.
If you put together this system you should be able to live off the grid easily. I know because I’ve been doing it in Jamaica for three years.
You should check out the RETscreen web site. It contains all you need including software for free.

Home power as mentioned above is a great magazine, thats geared toward pro’s doing the work. One can’t go wrong with what they have to say. For those of us without the $30k to get to a off the grid system, here is a link for people like me who think that a more hands on approach can also work.
Mother Earth News is a good all around DIY magazine.
