My essay topic is on green energy, I can't seem to think of an ethical reasons to why we should make the switch.
What are some reasons(ethical, logical, and emotional) to why we should switch to renewable/green/efficient energy?

We should swtich to renewable energies – a wise combination of solar, wind, and water power because renewables are:
A) sustainable – energy that wont deplete (= energy security / the end of the power struggle)
B) Doesn’t cost the earth to acquire
(EG. there’s no drilling into the Earth’s core…)
C) Once equipment is paid for, the energy is FREE.
(Ah! Freedom from bills!)
D) It is truly SAFE
E) It is CLEAN / non-polluting (no carbon emissions!)
F) NO power cuts! (With adverse weather / global warming, no risk, or threat, of having no power)
G) Homes that have handy energy generation kits installed, become self-sufficient / don’t have to rely on the national grid
(which needs replacing at huge expense) (if that money was saved and spent on fitting devices in every building – WOW!)
(= Energy Security)
for one, it means a healthier environment.
why do we have libraries? so each of us can share and renew books. would it be hard without libraries? renweable engery is better cause its good for the environment and its easier. trust me. go google it LOL
1. Cleaner Environment
2. New creation of Jobs
3. "Renewable" Cost efficient
4. Variations (Hyrdo, Wind, Solar, etc)
5. Research Development (advancement in technology)
if you think deeply you’ll find that " RENEWABLE SOURCES OF ENERGY ARE THE ONLY WAY TO TO SAVE OUR EARTH & NON RENEWABLE SOURCES OF ENERGY(COAL , PETROLEUM ETC) FROM RUNNING OF SOON FROM OUR WORLD"
further uses can be:
1.renewable sources of energy will help in adoption of sustainable development.as it will help in reducing pollution.
2. using renewable sources , we will not run out soon from coal , petroleum & fossil fuels of other kind & some stock would be left for future generations.
3.economy of the world as well as the country who adopts sources of renewable sources of energy, will develop a lot cause it is more efficient to utilise these energies .
Hehe good question. NASA and other space agencies keep breaking new holes in the ozone layer every time they send up a rocket burning tons- of fossil fuels.
First and foremost, renewable indicates that we can re-generate the energy source and/or the energy source can be re-generated. Non-renewable energy sources are fine as long as there is more than enough supply of that energy source to last for our life times, the life times of our friends and family, and the life-times of their friends and family, and so on. Sometime down the road however, there will come a time that we will run out of the supply of non-renewable energy. Ethically, if we care about the people at the time that we run out, we will find alternatives now. Putting ethics and reality together, as we run out those with the most money and/or resources to trade for a dwindling non-renewable energy source will survive better/longer than those without. Our current reality is however, we are seeing that level of dwindling at this time.
One issue that is sure to come up within the next year or two is that of efficient generation, transport/delivery, and use of elecgrical energy within the United Sates and North America in general. Electricity is an important form of energy. We tend to generate it from hydro-electric dams, the burning of coal, and from nuclear power plants. Each of these have some negative environmental impacts. There are some alternative generation sources coming on line such as wind turbines and alternative fuel sources.
Still, for as much as we currently generate, we actually lose large portions of it as it is transported along wires from the generation source to the end-user. A comparison would be if you had a pocketful of change but, there was a hole in your pocket. You put enough extra money in your pocket so that (hopefully) have enough to buy what you want at the store by the time you get there but, along the way you’ve lost a bunch of it. How much? You don’t know unless you have a way to count it. All you know is that sometimes, when you get to the store, you don’t have enough left in your pocket to meet your buying needs/wants. Let’s assume you don’t even have a way to count it before you leave for the store. Now, you could solve the problem by either spending the money to have the pocket sewn up, completely replacing the material that makes up the pocket, or even buying a new pair of pants if the pocket and surrounding material is in that bad of shape. We can call your pants pocket part of your spending infrastructure; something required to support your ability to get money to the store so that you can buy things there. – Well, the wires, switches, connectors, and paths that electricity travels from its generation source to your electrical appliance are the infrastructure of electricity called the electrical gird. During times of heavy use, it has already had some well reported failures. One of the things that the new president, Obama has mentioned is spending Federal money on infrastructure. And, he has specifically mentioned the electrical grid so that we can use all/most/more of the electricity we are already generating. If we use more of the electricity we are already generating, then we will be more able to rely on the alternative generation sources. Most of the alternative generation sources we’ve come up with so far are more evironmentally friendly than the traditional sources we’ve been using. On the individual use level, using light bulbs and appliances that require less electricity to operate will also reduce the demand on the electricity generation sources as well.
The term "green" is rather ill-defined. But, it means that you’re doing something with less, minimal. or no negative environmental impact. In general, negative enviornmental impact translates into some type of waste, pollution, or contamination. Even within the generation, transport/delivery, and use of the traditional energy sources and alternative energy sources there are a number of improvements that can be done to make them all/most more "green". Saving the polar bear is a good reason to make these things greener; for the polar bears themselves, the direct results of losing the polar, and everything else related to why we are losing the polar bears. But, a more direct and logical reason is that the negative environmental impacts in the generation, transport/delivery, and use of these energy sources are directly and negatively impacting our health too. Under our current systems, we are killing ourselves off too. It is not just the polar bear or climatic changes that are being affected. So, for those that do not see a correlation between our energy production and use systems, there is plenty of reason to become more green. It is ethical for our friends, family, community, country, and the world. It is logical in terms of self preservation. It is emotional when we and/or someone we know, care for, or love succums to a negative impact of living within our own waste, pollution, and contaminates.
A reason we might well switch to a renewable/green/efficient energy is that it does not hurt the energy supply for other people.
consider this (i did the figures pre-recession) if usa used alaska oil from anwr, in suvs at the rate it had been in 2007, all the anwr oil would be used in 3 years. of course, all the oil couldn’t be pulled from the earth in anwr in only 3 years, but that is how little there is in anwr, and how much usa uses. WE NEED TO REDUCE usage drastically. if not, we ship tons of $$ to often hostile governments.
support smaller engines, not taxes! useless-pay less!
i think it is futile to try to grow crops to feed 12mpg suvs, mustangs, 8 cylinder pickups. these should be taxed to the graveyard!
There is lots of conterversy over the whole global warming thing. Some agree some don’t. However what ever the case may be, weather it is real or not, good has come of it. It’s pushed us to re-think how to obtain other energies other then oil and natural gas. We have had solar panels, and wind generators for a long time, but it wasn’t until the past decade where the technology jumped allot. Solar panels have gotten stronger, smaller and absorb more light. Wind farms are being put up everywhere.
It’s also all renewable, we never have to worry about running out of wind or solar. As the technology gets more popular and progresses more it will pay for itself.
People will also save money. Sure buying a solar and wind system to power a house will cost money, but after that it’s free energy eventually it will pay for itself in free energy.
Here are a few. Fossil fuels are finite, it is better to find an alternate before they become scarce. As they become scarce countries who control the reserves will be able to increase the price and will have great power over those who need it. Energy Independence increases national security.
Health of our people and our land is another good reason to look for clean and renewable energy. We have great coal reserves, but every aspect of coal is damaging both to the environment and to humans. To extract the coal we actually destroy mountains and ecosystems, the waste is put into canyons and water ways and has destroyed entire ecosystems in several eastern states. Burning coal releases many toxins into the air which ultimately lands and is killing plants and has rendered many areas unsafe to grow food or cattle. There are increased levels of several toxins in grazing animals near coal plants. After coal is burned we are left with sludge and ash. These are stored in reservoirs which occasionally break and destroy even more land. We just had another such spill and it has destroyed an entire town.
for a truly simplistic –answer think of it this way
non renewable resources – will run out – then ALL DONE & there is no more.
renewable resources – keep renewing – replacing themselves – gee no ALL done!!
works for me
