What are some good alternative energy sources for a house in NY?

Solar energy doesn't seem to be very practical since there is only an average of 3.5 hours of full sun. There isn't enough wind in my area to produce much electricity. What other options are there?

well there are many of things you can do to keep your bills down changing all your light bulbs that us less energy. plus solar dose work they have units that mount on your roof not the best looking but they do work. also as far as oil goes there are new systems that use no oil at all its called forced hot air i think turn around time for money is about five years for some of the systems.
