What are some good alternative energy sources for a house in NY?

Solar energy doesn't seem to be very practical since there is only an average of 3.5 hours of full sun. There isn't enough wind in my area to produce much electricity. What other options are there?

If you are in the process of building your house, then there is a lot you can do! Check out especially the "dream green home" page and the " framing page " for specific ideas: http://www.building-your-green-home.com
You might choose Insulated Concrete Forms, or SIPS, or Geothermal, or Passive Solar heating and passive cooling. (how you site your home is key).
If your home is already built, then you can look into insulating to make it more energy efficient. See this page on insulation… http://www.building-your-green-home.com/types-of-insulation.html
Hope this helps.
compact fluorescent energy saving light bulbs, unplug any unused electronic plugs like toasters, can openers, tv, gagets because even if they are off they still do suck out electricity

check out Greensave and Huddler
Build a generator that runs on children’s tears.
probably use a fan or something else
well there are many of things you can do to keep your bills down changing all your light bulbs that us less energy. plus solar dose work they have units that mount on your roof not the best looking but they do work. also as far as oil goes there are new systems that use no oil at all its called forced hot air i think turn around time for money is about five years for some of the systems.
