This sounds AMAZING, after reading it do you think this is a real possibility and how many jobs world wide could it create? Since the U.S. Government funded the initial research wouldn't it strengthen the country economically and as well as make the U.S. the world's leading energy provider one way or another? What do you all think?

Here's a quote
The scientists behind the technology, which has been developed in research funded by the US government, say that generating power in this way would potentially cost only around 3.5p per kilowatt hour, compared to about 4.5p for wind energy and between 10p and 31p for solar power. They say the technology would require up to 50 times less ocean acreage than wave power generation.

Also at 3.5 per KWH it's cheaper according this this table than any other major energy source

renewable energy, can it be mass produced?

I keep seeing articles saying we have to go to renewable energy sourses and soon. What options do we have. Hydro power is being used and has nearly reachedits limit. Wind power so far has not proven it's worth. It takes a huge number of wind turbines to even begin to make a dent in consumption of fossil fuels. The same with solar power. It would take a vast amount of solar cell panels just to power one factory. Bio fuels such as Bio diesel and alcohal use up a vast amount of crop land that will soon be needed to feed the growing population. Hydrogen has potential but so far it takes more energy to produce it than the energy it provides. Fusion nucular may be the best answer in the long run if it ever becomes possible to build fusion reactors that donot take outside energy to run them. Fision reactors create a vast amount of dangerous wste that will last far too long. Any one know of any alternative that can bee viable?
Thanks to you all for answering so far. There are ideas there that I have not explored very well so I will get at reading and see how they fit in. I know many things have to be done and I do hope it happens soon. Neucular for the time baing seems the only way out until something better comes along later. Thanks

I'm writing an 8-10 page research paper for my English course. I need help deciding what alternative sources of energy to research. A list of different kinds would help, for example: ocean energy, solar power.

other than those of course. thank you!!

I would like to know exactly which engineer types are related to alternative energy.

Such as, making green devices, solar power, wind power, biofuel, ect.

Thanks in advance.

Examples that I heard of but I am not familiar with are mechanical/ environmental engineers but I would like a description of how the type of engineer relates to alternative energy.

Thanks in advance.

The governator was on Jay Leno and told how they wanted to build a giant solar power setup but treehugging animal lovers blocked them over a mouse that had never been seen in the building area, but could/maybe/possibly be around there somewhere. How about if we take their cars and electricity, make them live like in the 1500's like they want.

I'm looking for a piece of property in northern Fla./southern Ga. I want to make it as self sufficient as possible. Growing my own vegetables, raising my own protein sources and such. I've looked into solar power and wind mills as power sources. Both seem feasible but which is best? Also is there anything else I can/should do? I plan on living there the rest of my life and any suggestions are welcome.

Is solar Energy a Real Renewable resource?

Okay so i am doing this project over Renewable energy and i have deeply thought about this. Is solar energy really Renewable? Because if the sun is slowly burning out, and may become Complete darkness one day, it wont make Solar power a Renewable resouce because it will Never last forever right?

Wind power, nuclear power, hydro power, solar power, and geothermal

As a right wing conservative, I hate the environment. When you drive hybrid cars, you ride with Hitler!

Hybrid cars are only for homosexual Liberals.

Wind farms - communist things that I hate because I don't understand it.

I believe we need more factories that shoot up soot for the sake of profit and the free market. The government shouldn't intrude and regulate the amount of carbon monoxide we want to shoot in to the atmosphere. Why does the DMV require that I have to get a smog check every 2 years on my car? That's the socialist government intruding on my individual liberties! And freedom!

The right thing to do is to deregulate everything and let Americans drive bicycles with diesel truck engines if we want. The government should stop telling me to stop dumping used motor oil in the storm drain! I'll dump as much as I want!

Solar power is Marxist & communist in nature -- it's taking a FREE handout of energy from a collective source and allowing the REDISTRIBUTION of energy to heat homes and power lights! And that hurts the Big Oil corporations that would prefer you use coal-based energy! It goes against capitalism and the free market!

Environmentalism is for pansies & terrorists!

Socialism! Marxism! Muslims! Kenya! Birth Certificate! Bill Ayers! Van Jones! Trying to take away our guns!

I'm not sure why I said that last line... but hopefully someone will get scared and just go along with everything else I said.

Do you think you can't afford this? Ever look at youtube videos about Solar Photovoltaic Electricity and how easy it is to get it installed. Have you gotten any local estimates? Small wind turbines on roofs. Just another simple, maintenance free appliance, live a TV roof satellite TV dish, but Solar are panels on your roof. Patches right into you electric company and the Electric company buys excess power during the date. Rebates make it very affordable. Get 3 quotes in your area. Investigate Solar Power, Solar Hot water, Small Wind turbines, Solar PV panels are warranted 25 Years. It's a long-term saving, but as prices rise so do you saving and payback. You don't know if it SUCKS or is GOOD unless you've looked into it. Many are surprise voltage goes up in colder temperatures. So you don't have to be in CA to benefit big time. Creates Jobs too for installers and manufacturers, etc. Give the question a try though, what do you think?

I am talking about potential to produce electricity out of wind, solar power, or potential to create biofuels.

How poor places benefit from renewable energy?

Like in India and parts of Africa, and especially the use of solar power.

What degree would deal with renewable energy?

What type of degree would focus on the design and implication of both wind and solar power terminals in both commercial and residential settings? Assuming one exists of course.

Might wind turbines cause localised climate change?

Although I certainly believe that renewable energy is preferable to fossil fuel burning, I've been thinking, is it not possible that these options will cause their own forms of climate change? For example, wind turbines should cause a small decrease in wind speed, and as climate is a chaotic system who knows what the end result could be due to the "butterfly effect."

Likewise, hydroelectricity should cause a change in surface heat retention (due to the fact that water retains heat longer than solid ground), whilst solar power will increase the reflective properties of the ground possibly reducing surface heat take-up.

What are your opinions on this?
Also, what options do you think we have instead? Do we have ANY?

As a essay paper or "referat" about "wind" "Ebb and flow" "solar power"im lookin for?
Answer may be link, or essay paper, abstract . . .

- where in Canada/Ontario is this method used?
- advantages and disadvantages of using this method
- benefits or hazards to the environment when using this method
- how does energy production using this energy source compare with energy production from solar power?
- how much energy can be produced by this method; is it enough to be used alone or must it be used with another energy source?
- summarize the process
- are there any commercial products that you know of that are powered by wind energy?

If you could help answers any of these questions, or just give me good pictures or websites to find information on it would be super helpful. Thanks! :)

what is the the most profitable field when it comes to renewable energy is solar power?

I would like to convert my house to total wood power, perhaps run a steam powered turbine for electricity. Also thought about solar power but I live in Michigan. Any suggestions?

the most profitable field when it comes to renewable energy is solar power. It seems as if the biggest “controversy” regarding solar power is the amount of space required for the solar panels to capture the solar energy which is converted to electricity.

I own a buisness that converts home and industries to solar/wind power and I'm working on converting over a city streetlights, red lights and ball park to solar power. Where can I find a funding source that will pay the grant fee for the city?

I am covering solar power, wind power, tidal power and battery powered vehicles. Thanks guys!

I'm interested in solar power in particular, but everything is game. I'd like suggestions on appropriate majors and/or courses, and work experiences/jobs I should look out for.
Are there any universities where strides in this field are being taken/interesting research is being done?
