Greenpeace is always saying that Nuclear power in the UK ought to be abolished, along with coal, oil and natural gas.
fair enough, but do they have a viable proposal for how to fill that energy gap?
It seems to myself to be common that when someone opposes the dogma of AGW, or proclaims that the risks presented by elevated atmospheric CO2 are overstated, that the accusation inevitably comes that they are receiving money from 'Big coal, oil or mining'.
Do these people not realize that companies typically have broad portfolios. An energy company is likely to have both renewable and fossil fueled generating assets. For instance in my country of Australia the three major energy companies all have stakes in coal, gas and wind power generation, often with hydro and other renewables tacked on.
By the same token large Oil companies do not solely produce fuel for vehicles, they also produce lubricants and other industrial chemicals which will remain in demand irrelevant of any need to reduce carbon dioxide emissions.
Same goes for mining companies, renewable energy options still ultimately consume raw resources that come out of the ground, from the aluminium in a wind turbine to the silica in a solar cell.
My question is that why does it seem to be suggested that reducing carbon dioxide emissions is going to be so detrimental to these companies that they would fund online bloggers, when the reality is that these companies still have a huge stake in what is considered the alternative to fossil fuels.
Isn't it far more likely that all that a reduction in the consumption of coal for power generation or oil for transport is simply going to force these companies to change their business model, rather than render them economically inviable?
150 alone for solar cell power plants. We could supply the total USA grid with a 90x90 mile solar power plant in the Arizona desert. No more coal, oil, nuclear, destructive dam's. 16 month of Iraq war would pay for it.
Does our government protect sweat heart deals with big oil. What's you draw?
I need to make/find a graph on these 5 energy sources: Coal, Oil, Wind, Solar, and Nuclear
Does anyone have a link to the percentages or else a graph! please!
... years?
Hasn't Obama been telling us that green energy is cheaper than coal, oil, natural gas, etc and will make this economy soar?
(coal,oil, & natural gas)
Syngas is a by-product of all materials derived from plants, animals, coal, oil or oil based materials, sewage sludge, plastics and synthetic fibers. It can be used as a building block to create other forms of renewable energy using a machine called gasifier. I have searched but I haven't found any article that claims Syngas as another form of alternative/renewable source of energy.
im doing a project for school and it asks what are the problems associated with alternative energy sources.
now, i know fossil fuels(coal, oil etc...) create greenhouse gasses but solar power, it seems there is nothing wrong with it
is there anything wrong with it?
Maybe because 99% of their energy plants are from COAL,OIL and NATURAL GAS.
Do they have to use coal? No
Whether you live in the south or the southwest alternative energy is still a viable source of energy.
Solar, Wind, Geothermal and other alternative sources are available to The Southern Company.
They are BIG OIL. Thats why they dont want to change.
Americans are not stupid.
CHANGE OR YOU WILL BE FORCED TO.
THATS GOES FOR DEMOCRAT/REPUBLICAN/LIB/CON/JACKASS/WHATEVER YOUR NAME IS.
