Why can't liberals understand alternative energy enough to actually make it marketable?

If any form of alternative energy actually worked, wouldn't the patent owners all be billionaires like Bill Gates and Warren Buffett?

Why does every single option have to be propped up by the government just to remain on life support?

Is it true Bill Gates is selling all of his shares in microsoft in order to buy up renewable energy stocks?

Okay, here's what I read; Bill Gates has very little involvement with Microsoft these days and is slowly dumping all of his MS shares quietly, and reinvesting his money into renewable energy stocks like wind and solar power. Is this really true that he realises Microsoft is under the knife to the likes of Google and Apple and he knows it so he's doing this? Just curious.

Warren Buffett invested 5M in wind power and Bill Gates has placed millions in fuelcell, both of which are alternative energy sources. Does anyone know WHICH company, stock or shares that these guys have invested? Thanks!
