I am working on the design & manufacture of small scale wind turbine. I need help in determining the size of model should i get manufactured for testing in the wind tunnel for its accuracy. What parameters are necessary while scaling down the actual blade design? In other words, what should be the ratio of model size to the internal cross-sectional area of wind tunnel?

I am making a small scale wind turbine for school as an independent study. I will be following the plans on the following sites/videos:
http://www.mdpub.com/Wind_Turbine/
http://www.wonderhowto.com/how-to-make-wind-powered-generator-with-make-magazine-272175/
I will need a way of measuring the power generated and will probably require a battery bank to do this.
I'm sure it will depend on what motor (generator) I use. I was planning on using an old treadmill motor if I can find one and if not probably one of these:
http://banebots.com/p/M4-R0062-12
My question is what form of battery should I use? I have a relatively tight budget and would need the biggest bang for my buck. Should I use a bunch of 12 volts? larger? when it comes to batteries I'm kind of clueless so any help is VERY MUCH appreciated.
It will be running for quite some time and I need to track how much energy I can generate over an extended period of time without using a logging tool (they cost too much)

Bird strikes on wind turbines are a real occurrence for the super-sized units that utility companies put up, but the birds don't actually get "minced", it's a blunt force trauma. For small scale wind turbines like a homeowner might put up bird-strikes are no more common than birds flying into your window. Some wind turbine owners even put those fake owls on the side of the unit just like some homeowners put those fake owls by their large picture windows.

There are small 3 to 4kw turbines available. How many are needed to power avg house?

There are hillsides full of wind turbines in the Altamont Pass near Livermore, CA. If the turbines are such a good form of alternative energy why is it that most of the time there are only a small percentage of the turbines turning (even when it is windy)?

Do you think you can't afford this? Ever look at youtube videos about Solar Photovoltaic Electricity and how easy it is to get it installed. Have you gotten any local estimates? Small wind turbines on roofs. Just another simple, maintenance free appliance, live a TV roof satellite TV dish, but Solar are panels on your roof. Patches right into you electric company and the Electric company buys excess power during the date. Rebates make it very affordable. Get 3 quotes in your area. Investigate Solar Power, Solar Hot water, Small Wind turbines, Solar PV panels are warranted 25 Years. It's a long-term saving, but as prices rise so do you saving and payback. You don't know if it SUCKS or is GOOD unless you've looked into it. Many are surprise voltage goes up in colder temperatures. So you don't have to be in CA to benefit big time. Creates Jobs too for installers and manufacturers, etc. Give the question a try though, what do you think?

i was wondering if you could use a microwaves fan to make a small wind turbine or what here's a pic

I work at a place where people drop off stuff for free, and I salvage what I can and sell the items for just enough to pay for the electricity bill. I was wondering what kind of items that would normally be no good would have a motor in it that would be good for a wind turbine. As a company that pushes for going green, I think having green energy, by making wind turbines, would be great for this small company.
I've read that treadmills have good ones, and older computers. What other things would have them?

Is there any way I can buy my own small turbine that I can set up on my property and legally use? How Much would that cost me?

My teacher told me about some offshore wind turbines that had what he described as a storage container looking thing attached to them which held some bunks and a small kitchen. Could you please give me some information as to who makes these and where I could find pictures of them. THANKS!!!!!

I made a very small model wind turbine for a science fair project and expected to see that the larger blades worked better, but the results were the complete opposite and overall pretty crazy. I don't know what any of this means. Help?

I had read about a community in brazil that has played a major part in proving that sustainable communities are possible by using micro grids, mini hydro turbines and small wind turbines. I cannot remember the name or find anything online.

In a good month we use 57,000KWH. A small turbine for a home costs ,000 to purchase and install, only generates 2,000 KWH per year, and it's simply not feasible. The savings have to be more significant for it to be an option for us.

Does anyone know a website or link that can give direct insturctions to building a Horizontal Wind Turbine? Not one of those ones the size of football fields. More like a small model. Yahoo! Answers is my last resort, and I need to type my procedure in for my 9th grade Science Long-Term project by tomorrow!!
Please! I really need help! My partners on the project basically suck...and don't know anything.

I want to make a wind turbine at home. How much would something like this cost? I obviously dont want one of those massive things you see at wind farms. I just want to make a small wind turbine to power things such as an outside fridge and some lighting.
thanks

Although I certainly believe that renewable energy is preferable to fossil fuel burning, I've been thinking, is it not possible that these options will cause their own forms of climate change? For example, wind turbines should cause a small decrease in wind speed, and as climate is a chaotic system who knows what the end result could be due to the "butterfly effect."
Likewise, hydroelectricity should cause a change in surface heat retention (due to the fact that water retains heat longer than solid ground), whilst solar power will increase the reflective properties of the ground possibly reducing surface heat take-up.
What are your opinions on this?
Also, what options do you think we have instead? Do we have ANY?

is it feasible to charge the battery with wind turbine instead of solar panels. would i get enough power from the wind to charge the battery? or the DC motor driving the car would consume all of the battery charge before it will get charged from the wind turbine??
what about the wind powered cars?!! www.windturbineracer.com
the cars move with only wind energy.why can't we convert this energy into electricity to drive the motor?!!

I am looking into installing a small wind turbine for our suburban home. We live on the coast, so there is usually a constant flow of wind. We have been looking into VAWTs, but I also have been exploring other possibilities. Anyways, can someone tell me what the name of the company is for the wind turbines on the second image of this website: http://greenhome.huddler.com/wiki/residential-wind-turbine-introduction
I'm not sure it will work, but I would like to investigate it further.
Thanks

I was discussing with an adversary of mine the possibility of this. I think it is possible over a period of time for a small wind generator to produce the same amount of energy that a gallon of gas will produce.
I saw a homemade wind turbine done with 50 gallon drums on Youtube. It was very practical and easy to build. My question is. What is the length of time that it would take to generate the same amount of energy from a gallon of gasoline?

Could you spin these if air is forced in these directions (up or down)? I am thinking of say a pipe with a series of small turbines in line. Restricting air after each one to produce greater speed of air to the next. I would also like to cut out part of the pipe next to them to bring in wind energy if that's even possible to spin them inside the pipe. Would these just oppose each other, any idea if it would work and create more rpms? Sorry, I'm just an architecture student so I lack the knowledge for this unless I make models to test it, don't want to waste my time if someone knows. I have worked on aircraft engines before so I have that knowledge of compressors, just not how the forces would move in this idea.... Thanks for any help. Here is a turbine for an example.

Not sure what you mean. I do not know how air moves across these. Does it just push on the wind side and leave the turbine in a straight line once it rotates to the other side? Or does it push against it and follow the curved paths up or down?

My area has an average of 10.5 MPH wind yearly
Setup: Maybe an Ametek PM 30V DC generator with inverter, battery(ies) and homebuilt or purchased blades/hub, etc. nothing too fancy
Purpose: To be able to power light or small evaporative cooler if electricity goes out (and to learn/have fun)
Questions: 1) Is this setup able to power the above 2) when not used for emergency, will the inverters that plug in the wall actually make any difference in electric bill?
Thanks

If possible the size kw needed, thankyou!!
If known...what would be the dimensions of the wind turbine, and the amount of kW needed, thankyou!
