I have a few questions about wind turbines:
1) What are the smallest/largest sizes of residential turbines?
2) Can one residential turbine supply energy to more than one house? If so, does this mean that the turbine has to be larger, or can a small turbine supply a sufficient amount of energy?
3) Does a residential turbine have to be directly behind the house, or can it be across the street or even in a nearby field?
If possible, please include some sources. Thank you!
please choose an ordinary small wind turbine yourself and tell me the answer.
actually in my project( experiment),
-a wooden box ( 1m X 1m X 1m) is there with a 10 cm (diameter) round hole at the bottom and with a pushable lid, it has springs inside which bring the lid to the original position when force is removed.air will escape form the bottom hole when force is applied on the top.
-1m3 (cube) air escapes through the hole in 2 seconds.
-speed of air is 15 meters per second(nearly)
-in front of the hole , a wind turbine is put which will make electricity when air escapes.
now , i want to know the amount of electricity made in 2 seconds.
please tell me , thanks in advance
i have told that i am not aware of anything else.please choose a turbine generator yourself and tell me the answer.
For a school project, we have to build a very small wind turbine to generate electricity. We were given a generator so all we have to do is construct the blades and the tower from scratch, which I'm not quite sure how. Can anyone give me any ideas or websites that might help?
i am in 8th grade, and i need help figuring out what i should do. i thought about putting "What generates more electricity in the same amount of time, a small wind turbine or a solar panel". The only thing is, i only have a solar panel!
I am making a small wind turbine (about 1.5 feet tall) for a science project to see which blade shape produces most energy.
I have put blades of the same size and shape on the turbine, tilted at about the same angle (45 degrees)
I put it in front of a fan to measure the voltage (its connected to a volt meter) and the problem is that the numbers that are popping up on the volt meter vary greatly and quickly, sometimes appearing as .02 dc volts to .25 volts
How can I ensure that the voltage remains the constant so that I can actually record the data? I don't want to just put a random number down as the amount of volts it produced
I am doing a project for my college, Im coming up with a petition to get a big wind turbine to power a 1000 student college. I need big wind turbines, not residential there too small. websites would be great
This is to experiment with power generation. I am looking for small (4-6 inch diameter), premade, cheap fan blades that do not include a motor (I already have the motor). Does anyone know where to get something like this, or even what category I should be looking under? I have found some good options, but they all include a motor and are upwards of .
in theory could a small wind turbine moving at high speeds (say 60-70 mph) creat the same amount of energy as a normal sized one moving at normal speed
I'm trying to make a small wind turbine that can light a small light. I have a small motor and the turbine put together, but in a good wind the turbine doesn't spin fast enough to get a decent voltage. I am wondering what I could use to cheaply make a gearing system to bring up my motor's rpms.
Thanks!

If I wanted to buy a small wind turbine where could i buy one?
is it possible to build a small wind turbine to light up 4 40 watt bulbs for my aviary caz its dark in my finch aviery and they need about 16 hours of light if so can you tell me what basic stuff ill need thanks matthew
i worked for my experiment for small wind turbine for residential application, its not new but its not either known for many, can anyone help please? any research, technology tips, website,
I live in a subdivision and previously thought using wind power to generate electricity was reserved for people with more acreage.
I was watching "Living with Ed" on HGTV and I see where he has installed a small, cylindrical wind turbine on the side of his house and I wonder who makes it and where I can get one.
Does anyone know about "subdivision-safe" wind turbines?
what people think of the old-fashioned Aermotor windmills that you see all over the South and Midwest? Would there be less opposition to wind turbines if they looked more like this:

Instead of this: http://upload.ecvv.com/upload/Info/200801/20083491728865490_small_wind_turbine.jpg
Would you be bothered if your neighbor had one of the old fashioned style wind turbines on their property?
The idea isn't to generate enough electricity for a whole house. The idea is to generate just enough electricity to make it a viable investment. Given that electricity rates in some states are now over 15 cents per kilowatt hour these kinds of units are becoming capable of paying for themselves in as little as six years, while a properly designed unit can last more than thirty years. That's a nominal payback assuming no further increase in utility rates (and we know there will be future increases) which suggests a nominal return on investment of 500%.
Me and a good friend were thinking of possibly in a couple of years starting a small energy business, but were not sure if we should use solar thermal collectors, solar photovoltaic panels or wind turbines? im pretty sure wind turbines wont be much use because the size required to produce enough electricity. We live in England so are not sure which would be best. which would have the bigger market and would be most needed? any questions just ask.
Thanks allot Nick
i am working on a small wind turbine for a project but i cant find a large enough DC motor for cheap.
But at a thrift store i saw a large used AC motor for .
I know you can use DC motors to generate DC current but can you use an AC motor to generate DC power?
I'm making a small wind turbine for a science project. It doesn't need to produce a lot of electricity, just enough to register on a multimeter. I just need to know: For the generator, are magnets and coils the only things I need for the turbine to generate electricity? Or is there something else I'm missing? I just need this cleared up.
i want to know if there is a very small wind turbine generator whose diameter is near about 1 meter.
if yes then please tell me if 1m cube air passes through it at 10 meters per second , then how much electricity will be generated by the turbine.

if you get it but are not finding the electricity generated then please provide its-
rotor diameter
turbine efficiency
cut in speed
cut out speed
turbine efficiency(percentage)
Weibull Shape Parameter
please tell me.its very urgent
i want to design a small wind turbine which i will place on top of my car. as long as the car speeds up, this turbine will work and will charge a small battery other than car battery. what should i do as starting step for this and which site can tell usefull info for this idea?
I am working on the design & manufacture of small scale wind turbine. I need help in determining the size of model should i get manufactured for testing in the wind tunnel for its accuracy. What parameters are necessary while scaling down the actual blade design? In other words, what should be the ratio of model size to the internal cross-sectional area of wind tunnel?
I am making a small scale wind turbine for school as an independent study. I will be following the plans on the following sites/videos:
http://www.mdpub.com/Wind_Turbine/
http://www.wonderhowto.com/how-to-make-wind-powered-generator-with-make-magazine-272175/
I will need a way of measuring the power generated and will probably require a battery bank to do this.
I'm sure it will depend on what motor (generator) I use. I was planning on using an old treadmill motor if I can find one and if not probably one of these:
http://banebots.com/p/M4-R0062-12
My question is what form of battery should I use? I have a relatively tight budget and would need the biggest bang for my buck. Should I use a bunch of 12 volts? larger? when it comes to batteries I'm kind of clueless so any help is VERY MUCH appreciated.
It will be running for quite some time and I need to track how much energy I can generate over an extended period of time without using a logging tool (they cost too much)
I just need to know how to build a regular turbine using just pipes, wood. i don't know i just need to build one for a project
Bird strikes on wind turbines are a real occurrence for the super-sized units that utility companies put up, but the birds don't actually get "minced", it's a blunt force trauma. For small scale wind turbines like a homeowner might put up bird-strikes are no more common than birds flying into your window. Some wind turbine owners even put those fake owls on the side of the unit just like some homeowners put those fake owls by their large picture windows.
