Why shouldn't we use renewable energy? What are the disadvantages?

I want to someday work in a research facility that deals with Algae fuels.Or create a Business/organization that sell this fuel. Any thoughts ? Is this really the future of sustainable energy ? Is it profitable ? Does Algae look promising ?

Is there possibility for designing.
I actually wanna know the upcoming promising fields coz i m into RE energy course so wanna choose a specialization which i would be able to entrepreneur one day and keeping in mind market competition.

I am doing student congress in debate class and i'm arguing on whether or nto to spend 4 billion dolalrs investing on renewable energy, which is goign to be enacted december 10th 2010 (this year). What do you tihnk? would this be a good idea??

I keep seeing articles saying we have to go to renewable energy sourses and soon. What options do we have. Hydro power is being used and has nearly reachedits limit. Wind power so far has not proven it's worth. It takes a huge number of wind turbines to even begin to make a dent in consumption of fossil fuels. The same with solar power. It would take a vast amount of solar cell panels just to power one factory. Bio fuels such as Bio diesel and alcohal use up a vast amount of crop land that will soon be needed to feed the growing population. Hydrogen has potential but so far it takes more energy to produce it than the energy it provides. Fusion nucular may be the best answer in the long run if it ever becomes possible to build fusion reactors that donot take outside energy to run them. Fision reactors create a vast amount of dangerous wste that will last far too long. Any one know of any alternative that can bee viable?

for my science class exam, I must assemble a portfolio of 4 types of renewable energy technologies, it cannot be solar or wind. I must explain whether the technologies are feasible or not. I must explain the pros & cons of utilizing this type of energy, whether it be environmental, economic, social or political. I can only find wind and solar and we're not allowed to use those. I know of like cranks and generators but I still need more. So can anyone give me any other good ideas for renewable energy technologies?........... I have until friday.
