it is good that u r good in maths, that is important for engineers
I am Automation Engineer, works for automatising the Electrical Power Stations, which is known as Substation Automation. I did Electrical Engineering and my other collegues too.
I’m a biochemical engineer
i deal with alternative energy all the time.
so that might be a route you want to go: engineering
make sure you also get a good background in programming.
biochemicalengineers work with bio-renewable fuels
see: cellulosic ethanol production, biobutanol, bioethanol
chemical engineers also do a lot of work with hydrogen fuel cells and hydrogen fuel production.
mechanical engineers work with renewable turbine (wind/water) power and engine improvement efforts:
more efficient gasoline/ethanol/butanol/hydrogen engines
hydroelectric/wind power
you’ll need to not only be good at math but have excellent reasoning and problem solving skills.
My class started with 250
and we graduated with 35
you have to have the drive to stick through the hard times, and you will not have as many opportunities to drink and party as your friends.
it’s rewarding though – even in this difficult economic climate i have a job and i love what i do.
so work hard and good luck
Mathematics is necessary in all branches of engineering. Engineering is all about designing. Designing involves problem solving. To become a successful engineer, you have to be a hard worker.
Conventionally, energy is obtained from sources such as water reservoirs at high level, from coal, from oil, and from nuclear reactors. Alternate energy sources are wind, sunbeam, tides etc. The cost of electrical energy obtained from alternate energy sources is high. Hence, newer technologies are required to harness alternate sources of energy.
For a smart student in alternate energy, he needs to be good in thermodynamics in addition to mathematics. I wish you good luck in your career.
If you are looking at becoming an alternative engineer, you will have to go down the same path i did to ensure that you will get there. Mechanical engineering is degree you should aim for. As a mechanical engineer in a power industry, there are plenty of jobs out there at this time. Just do good in school and prepare yourself for college. By the time you get graduate, there will be alot of jobs out there because all the baby boomers from the 60’s will be retired. Good luck on your path to a great field.
