I’d follow up the last answer with suggesting a "glacial" political move.
Suggest a 100 in 100 plan for getting out of the current war.
100% of the US occupancy leaves 1% a month for 100 months. Even if elected twice, this goes past the next pres, and forces the other country to start taking command of themselves in a manageable time frame.
Along with this, switch local taxes to foreign trade %1 at a time for a 100 months, infuse local economy, making foreign trade still possible, but less desirable, and make all alternative energy sources exempt from trade taxes.
Simple… Write your elected representatives and tell them to get off their dead a**es and pass legislation that will allow drilling for oil in what are now restricted places… encourage the oil companies to build more refineries, forget about fining the oil companies for windfall profits (there aren’t any), and quickly provide licenses and encouragement to build more nuclear power plants.
There is not enough energy in alternative energy. Solar power can give 75 watt per square foot.
If we want to get off Mideast oil we will have to:
Build more fuel efficient cars.
Conserve energy
Drill in Anwar.
Drill in the ocean.
liquefy coal.
Produce nuclear power.
