Look on political web sites, or compare industry claims about how difficult it is to "develop" alternative energy to what has actually been done. Industry is more than a 100 years behind science in some areas, intentionally. But they can't say anything against alternative energy in public. So the government diverts research funds to those who want a monopoly on all energy sources, and they do their best to make it impossible. The cons are political.
