Let me start off by saying we (my family and I) live 100% off of the grid and are completely self-sufficient with a 0% Carbon footprint. I believe this is the first step anyone can make “help the environment”. Once you convert your own life style to a greener more eco friendly route, you can start helping others.
Alternative Fuels, also known as non-conventional fuels, are any materials or substances that can be used as a fuel, other than conventional fuels. Conventional fuels include: fossil fuels (petroleum (oil), coal, propane, & natural gas), & also in some instances nuclear materials such as uranium. Some well known alternative fuels include biodiesel, ethanol, butanol, chemically stored electricity (batteries & fuel cells), hydrogen, methane, natural gas, vegetable oil, biomass, & peanut oil.
Now alternative (or renewable) energy is a little different…
Renewable energy flows involve natural phenomena such as sunlight, wind, tides & geothermal heat. Each of these sources has unique characteristics which influence how & where they are used.

What Alternative energy is energy not from fossil fuels. Like solar, wind, Bio, wave and tidal. Clean coal plants and nuclear are not real that clean because of the byproducts. Coal byproducts is C02 and nuclear byproducts are nuclear waste.
We may someday run out of the energy sources we use today. And it is always good to keep looking for different energy sources so we can better the efficiency.
We should conserve it so we don’t deplete our natural resources and we can continue to use it.
Alternative energy is sources of energy that are not a major energy source that is used. Mostly because the alternative energy is not efficient, cost effective, or the technology isn’t developed. At this moment fossil fuels (oil) is a very important energy source, and there are no other good or even potentially good alternatives for it. Sad but true. We all know how damaging fossil fuels are, this is why alternative energy sources are an important thing to develop.
Alternative energies are any new source of energy (electricity, fuel, ect.) that is different from what we are used to using. But it is usually used to refer to renewable and net-emmision free-or-reducing technologies, like ethanol and solar power. And, yes, it is very important. It is going to be crucial as we begin to deal with global warming and as we run out of fossil fuels.
